BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA VILLAGE, FLORIDA – Like all productions at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, the Red and Gold Gala on September 12 offered many unforgettable moments.

The appearance and sound and of the helicopter was designed to evoke the emotional helicopter scene in “Miss Saigon,” which opens this year’s theater season. First was the dramatic landing of a helicopter on Riverfront Park, immediately adjacent to the Cocoa Village Civic Center, the site of the party.  A fire drill, announced during the cocktail hour, brought everyone out into the blinding sunshine for the landing. 

Why? The appearance and sound and of the helicopter was designed to evoke the emotional helicopter scene in “Miss Saigon,” which opens this year’s theater season.  It was also a great way to help introduce Florida Bi Planes and Helicopters, a recently launched local business providing air tours of the area.

The live auction, starring auctioneer Susie Wasdin, which included vacation stays at some fabulous resort locations, was another highlight.

A third was the musical performance by the cast in the upcoming “Miss Saigon” production, which showcased some impressive, “Broadway-quality” talent.

Finally, dance music, by “Showtime,” got everyone out on the floor for a fun workout after an evening of fine food catered by Edible Arts
