Supporting DGF’s Philanthropic and Educational Endeavors
Thousands of patients in Brevard County, Florida can thank Rosanne Cain for helping to make their physicians better at their jobs.
THE DOCTORS COMPANY has been involved with the Doctors Goodwill Foundation for almost a dozen years, supporting the foundation’s philanthropic and educational endeavors through the sharing of expert information from staff members such as Rosanne Cain.
Cain, patient risk manager at the Doctors Company in Jacksonville, travels to Brevard several times a year to lead workshops on preventing medical errors.
She does it in her own time and at no cost to the physicians and their staff on behalf of the Doctors Goodwill Foundation. During these lectures, Cain discusses everything from prescription drug abuse issues to how to develop better strategies for doctor/patient communications.
“It makes for better doctors and less people get hurt,” said Cain.
With more than three decades of experience in the fields of quality assurance, medical malpractice litigation and health care risk management, Cain – a licensed healthcare risk manager, registered nurse and certified legal nurse consultant – walks the walk when it comes to risk management.
In a long career as medical/legal consultant for malpractice attorneys, she testified in court on many, many occasions as both an expert and material witness in medical malpractice cases.
As nursing school faculty, she also lectured on risk management, medical practice litigation and related topics. She has also served as the risk manager of an international preventive health care company, as patient safety consultant for medical malpractice liability carriers and as administrator or home health care operations.
Her expertise has been instrumental in the development of policies and quality improvement plans for both Utilization Review Accreditation Commission and the National Committee for Quality Assurance accreditations.
She joined the Doctors Company, the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer in 2011. With the Doctors Company, Cain is tasked with fulfilling the group’s goal of advancing, protecting and rewarding the practice of good medicine.
HELPING THOSE IN NEED HAS ITS OWN REWARD
The Doctors Company has been involved with the Doctors Goodwill Foundation for almost a dozen years, supporting the foundation’s philanthropic and educational endeavors through the sharing of expert information from staff members such as Cain.
Cain is pleased to have been chosen as a Doctors Goodwill Foundation Ambassador, but she also feels helping out is its own reward.
Beyond the work day, Cain, a resident of St. Augustine, also practices paying it forward, with endeavors such as mission trips to Mexico and support of Samaritan’s Purse, a nondenominational international relief organization. Cain’s husband, Rick, deputy director at the St. Augustine Lighthouse, encouraged their family to be charitable.
“Instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other, we ask them to donate to their favorite charities.
