BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Boat parades are among the most celebrated holiday events on the Space Coast, and today is the much awaited and popular Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade.

This year, boaters will once again showcase the spirit of the season by adorning their seaworthy vessels with strands of lights, reindeer and other decorations that represent our tropical-style traditions.

The captain’s will stage their boats at Sykes Creek Parkway Bridge/ Kiwanis Basin at 5:30 pm.

The best viewing is at the Sykes Creek Parkway Bridge. Do not park or stop on the bridge, there is plenty of parking along the Causeway leading up to the bridge. The parade takes off at 6 p.m. and proceeds north through Sykes Creek and the adjacent canals, ending at State Road 528 at approximately 9 p.m.

If you would prefer to watch the parade on the water, Space Coast River Tours is offering boat tours of the parades.

The tour leaves at 5:30 pm from Kiwanis Island, 951 Kiwanis Island Park Road in Merritt Island. Boarding is at 5 pm. Last year there was about 90 boats in this one and the parade usually take around three hours. Reservations are required and to make one,  Call 321-652-1052.
