BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Little League’s 9-10 softball team went to Cross Bayou Little League for their State of Florida Tournament this weekend.
Cocoa was led by the powerhouse pitching combination of Emily Thomas and Avery Lawson. Avery threw a shutout in their opener against the Section 1 Champions from Niceville Little League as Cocoa won 10-0. Emily Thomas threw a shutout in their third game as Cocoa fought to a 3-0 win.
The team played hard, going 3-0 in their bracket, but fell to an outstanding Cape Coral team in the Championship game.
On offense, Trinity Choron had a hot bat throughout the tournament as she continued her terror from Section play going 7-for-11 with a triple, 4 doubles and 2 singles while adding 3 walks and 5 RBI.
Avery Lawson, along with her performance on the mound, went 7-for-10 with a home run, 4 triples and 8 runs scored from the lead-off spot. Emily Thomas also did well at the plate as she and Ryan Sturgill both had 2 doubles while going 4-for-10 each.
Lauren Garvey was rock-solid behind the plate as she threw out 4 on 6 attempted steals and caught every inning for Cocoa during the tournament.
