Merritt Island Little League Splits At State Tournament

The Section 3 Champions, Merritt Island Little League, met the Section 2 Champs, Eau Galle LL, in their opening game at the State of Florida 9-10 Baseball Tournament at San Carlos Little League.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Section 3 Champions, Merritt Island Little League, met the Section 2 Champs, Eau Galle LL, in their opening game at the State of Florida 9-10 Baseball Tournament at San Carlos Little League.

Merritt Island struggled early in the game, giving up 7 runs in the first 2 innings on 3 errors.

The score was 7-1 going into the 6th inning when the wheels fell off and Merritt Island gave up 10 runs on 3 more errors. For Merritt Island, Rylan Diaz went 2-for-4 and Parker Dawson was 2-for-3 in the 17-4 loss.

In their second game, Merritt Island met the Section Champions from Niceville LL.

Merritt Island came out swinging and scored 10 runs in the first 2 innings. Merritt Island’s left-hander, Aiden Fowks, threw a complete game picking up the win.

They were paced by Tyler McClanahan who hit 2-for-4 with a 2 RBI triple and scored 2 runs. Tommy McGee was 2-for-3 with a big 2-out, 2-run double in the first inning.

Their third game was against the Section 7 Champions, East Lake. Merritt Island was sparked by a 2-out, 2-run double by Nolan McClanahan, as Merritt Island took a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Starter Tommy McGee kept East Lake in check until the 4th inning when Merritt Island committed a series of errors, allowing East Lake to tie the score at 6 and then take the lead 7-6.

But, Merritt Island rallied when, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Austin Dockery had a 1-out single that drove in the tying and winning runs.

Nolan McClanahan was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and scored 2 runs, Parker Dawson was 2-fo-3 with a double and 2 runs scored, and Shane Street was 1-for-2 with a double. Tyler Mulley got the win in relief.
