Brevard Manatees Tame Yankees In 2-1 Victory At Home

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Johnny Hellweg tossed five no-hit innings as the Brevard County Manatees (18-20, 47-60 overall) defeated the Tampa Yankees (18-22, 52-58 overall) 2-1 in front of a crowd of 1779 at Space Coast Stadium on Thursday night.

Hellweg (1-3, 7.20 ERA) allowed one run over five innings without allowing a hit to earn the victory. He walked four and struck out three.

With the Yankees leading 1-0, the Manatees scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Dustin Houle led things off with a single to right field. Jose Pena then reached on an infield single.

After a Steven Halcomb sacrifice bunt, Omar Garcia stepped to the plate with two runners in scoring position and one out. Garcia drilled a two-run single up the middle to plate both Houle and Pena. Garcia and Houle both had two hits on the evening.

Zach Hirsch tossed the final four frames of the ballgame to earn his first save of the season. He surrendered just three hits and one walk. He fanned four.

Vicente Campos (1-5, 6.35 ERA) took the loss. He gave up two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings.

After taking two of three from Tampa, Brevard County will head on the road to start a six-game road trip. First pitch between the Manatees and the Dunedin Blue Jays is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium tomorrow night.

Wei-Chung Wang (8-3, 3.80 ERA) will get the start for Brevard County.
