BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After a rough stretch of the season, Florida Tech is looking to turn the corner and get back on track Friday and Saturday at the 2015 South Region Crossover in Carrollton, Georgia.

The Panthers (7-7, 2-5 SSC) are coming off four consecutive defeats to Sunshine State Conference opponents, including losses to No. 14 Florida Southern (0-3) and No. 2 Tampa (1-3). FIT registered just three set wins over the stretch.

Despite the loss, the Panthers played their best game of the season, performing effectively on both sides of the net against the defending national champion Spartans. The Panthers held UT to only two total blocks in the match, its lowest output of the season. FIT’s aggressiveness also forced the Spartans into 18 attack errors.

The South Region Crossover features teams from the SSC and Gulf South Conference. This season the event is hosted at The Coliseum on the campus of West Georgia. Matchups for the crossover are determined by the teams’ standing in their respective conferences, with each contest pairing squads in a similar position in their league polls.

As the Panthers are currently seated in the eighth spot in the SSC, FIT draws GSC opponents Christian Brothers, host West Georgia and Mississippi College. This is the second year in a row that FIT will face CBU and UWG in the Crossover.

The Panthers swept Christian Brothers 3-0 in last season’s event. The Bucs (6-12, 3-8 GSC) claim the ninth spot in their conference standings after dropping six of their previous seven matches. CBU has beaten both Mississippi College (3-1) and West Georgia (3-0) this season.

Slotted at the bottom of the GSC standings is West Georgia (3-13, 0-11 GSC). UWG defeated FIT in five sets during the 2014-15 edition of the South Region Crossover. However, the Panthers are 12-1 all-time versus the Wolves. UWG began the year winning three of its first four contests, but the team has hit a considerable slump, losing its last 12 contests.

This will be the first-ever volleyball match between FIT and Mississippi College. The Choctaws (2-17, 1-10 GSC) have struggled mightily this season and enter the Crossover with six consecutive losses. MC’s only GSC win this year came against UWG.
