BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – General Eyes will perform a concert at the Port Canaveral Seafood & Music Festival, Saturday, February 27 at 3 pm.
General Eyes band was founded in 2012 when well-traveled musicians Mike Burns (Guitar/Vox/Trumpet) & Dustin Foster (Drums) crossed paths and started playing together.
“We played and wrote for a year as a duo and in 2013, Evan Bernard (Bass) joined the group,” said Burns.
“One year later, we ran into multi-instrumentalist, Jake Salter, who plays lead guitar/keyboard/backup vocals. We saw immediately that with the addition of Jake, the band would grow dynamically and gain a bigger sound, while freeing up front-man, Mike, to play more trumpet.”
General Eyes is:
Mike Burns – Lead Vox, Guitar, Trumpet, Harmonica:
The multi-talented Mike Burns, originally from Medford, Oregon, studied jazz and Spanish at Southern Oregon University. A noted Brevard food and wine expert, Burns was featured on the television program, Emeril’s Florida, when celebrity chef, Emeril Lagasse visited Cocoa.
During General Eyes band performances, audiences are always fascinated while watching Burns transcend the guitar/Vox, trumpet, harmonica, keyboards, djembe, maracas, and whatever instrument he can find.
Evan Bernard – Bass Guitar:
A Cocoa Beach native, Bernard graduated from Eastern Florida State Collage with a degree in science and his paisley pants are always a hit on stage.
Jake Salter Lead Guitar, Vox, Keys:
Salter has been working at New Life Ministries for the past 3 years in the music department. “It’s kind of cliché that a farm boy would someday pick up a guitar and start singing, but not when you consider Salter’s style,” said Burns.
“Jake Salter’s contribution on guitars and keyboards contains a sound of his own, mixing blues, hip-hop, reggae, and even slide guitar. Though Salter’s musical training and experience is extensive, if you ask him he’d probably just say, “I’m here to party.”
Dustin Foster – Drums:
A chef by day and a General Eyes band member at night, cooking has been a passion for Foster for over a decade.
Originally from Bradenton, Florida, Foster began playing music upon entering middle school and immediately discovered his love of playing the drums. He studied at Valencia State College and Southwestern Community College. A gifted natural musician, Foster taught himself to play the guitar and began writing music of his own.
Writing lyrics quickly became a new passion for him. After playing and touring with a few bands he discovered General Eyes. Always feeling relaxed and at ease behind his drum kit, Foster always engages the audience with his infectious smile. His passion and love of drumming has catapulted him to the being one of the best young drummers along the Space Coast.
Johnny McGuire – Trombone:
A Brevard county native, McGuire plays with General Eyes for larger scale productions. McGuire is an aquatic-weed technician by day, and a well-traveled trombonist by night. Studying jazz at the University of North Florida, McGuire plays with several bands including Derek & the Slammers.
“We are influenced by and respect a broad group of artists of many styles such as Bob Marley & the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Sublime, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Passafire, 311, Dirty Heads, Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Lettuce, Miles Davis, and many more.
In the near future, we will be broadening our reach, exploring and touring areas all across Florida. We intend to get out on the road, little by little, and eventually building a perfect tour route, each time pressing outward, further into the depths of the United States.
We classify ourselves as a rock-reggae band, but at the end of the day we have recorded songs in blues, jazz, rock, reggae, punk, funk, soul, pop, and hip-hop.
We have a style where we can feel comfortable in any venue or show, but we never forget who we are. Winning $3,000 and a $1,500 custom guitar three years ago at the Evermore Sound Battle of the bands was such a rush. We then won first place out of twenty-seven bands at the Brevard Live Magazine – Original Music Series – earlier this year which was a huge honor.
The General Eyes band looks forward to performing on the WRRJ 89.7FM Stage at the Seafood and Music Festival.
“When we play before Clint Black on February 27 at the Port Canaveral Seafood Festival, we are looking forward to playing before a huge international country music star. We will be playing a bit more of a rock and blues feel, blending the day with a little grit.”
Whatever they play, General Eyes are a unique group of talented people who always entertain and thoroughly enjoy their shows.
