Victims Identified As Twin Brothers

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol has conducted an investigation regarding the incident on N. Courtenay Pkwy./ Grove Blvd. that involved a truck and two bicyclists Thursday afternoon at around 3:45 p.m. in Merritt Island.

According to a release by the Florida Highway Patrol, the two victims on the bicycles are identified as twin brothers, 15-year-olds Aiden Makowski and Graham Makowski.

The brothers were transported by helicopter to Arnold Palmer Hospital and their injuries are listed as serious and minor, respectively, according to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the pickup truck is identified as 37-year-old female Michelle White.

According to the investigation, the truck was attempting to make a left turn to travel south on Courtenay Pkwy. after exiting Merritt Island High School. The two boys were traveling in the crosswalk when the front side of the truck struck both of the boys.

The driver then panicked and pressed the accelerator, running over both of the boys.

The driver was ticketed with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
