Mateen Called 911 and Pledged His Allegiance to the ISIS Leader
The Daily Beast, citing a senior law enforcement source, said Mateen was a person of interest in law enforcement investigations in 2013 and 2014.
The news website reports the FBI opened an investigation into Mateen at some point, but closed it “when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.”

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Congressman Alan Grayson, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, as well as the Orlando Police Department addressed the media related to the mass shooting at an Orlando Nightclub Sunday morning and confirmed ‘approximately 50 people dead and 53 injured.’
The shooting occurred at Pulse Orlando shortly after 2 a.m. and nine police officers were involed in the shootout with the suspect.
One officer was injured.
Police and the FBI have identified Omar Mir-Seddique Mateen, 29, a Muslim American citizen from Port St. Lucie, Florida, whose parents are from Afghanistan. Mateen was killed inside the nightclub.
Congressman Grayson called the shooting an “idealogically motivted attack” and an “act of terrorism.”
This is the largest mass shooting on American soil in history.
Another press conference is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. and Space Coast Daily will be on the scene.
