UPDATE: Pedestrian In Saturday Morning’s Crash Dies, Man Identified

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A man who was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle has died.
The victim is identified as Nate Vandegrift.
Just after 8 a.m., officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Peachtree St. and U.S. 1 for a reported vehicle crash involving a van and a pedestrian. When rescuers arrived a male was located in the intersection with serious injuries.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed the driver of a commercial van heading southbound on U.S. 1 struck the pedestrian who was on foot traveling eastbound on Peachtree St.
According to multiple witnesses, the driver of the van ran the red light at the intersection and struck the pedestrian as he was crossing.
The driver remained on scene and spoke with investigators. The investigation is ongoing with possible charges pending.
