Waves are looking mostly unrideable this morning. Late-morning's lower tide could help make the small waves more rideable by then. Surfers seeking an early morning surf session may want to focus on Cocoa Beach's northernmost beaches for a longboardable wave. — Cocoa Beach ocean temperatures now average 79 degrees.

SURF REPORT FOR AUGUST 26-28

Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard's waves since 1966. — Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard’s waves since 1966.Waves are not looking very fun this morning. There is plenty of northeasterly groundswell remaining, but onshore winds from passing storms are producing sloppy conditions.

Expect fun waves with bumpy conditions through this weekend. Mostly windswell generated today then a southeasterly tropical groundswell begins to show on Sunday.

FRIDAY: Surfers this morning will find waist- to chest-high waves with semi-bumpy conditions early from a northeasterly breeze. Early morning’s lower tide will help most spots produce longer rides.

SATURDAY: Surfing conditions will run in the chest-high range with more bumpy conditions from a steady easterly wind.

SUNDAY: I believe surf heights will build during the day as more of the tropical southeasterly groundswell fills in. Steady winds from the southeast will present bumpy surface conditions.

Cocoa Beach ocean temperatures now average 79 degrees.

Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard’s waves since 1966. He was also the first to surf several of North Carolina’s remote islands in the mid ’60s and travels frequently to surf in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico and Hawaii. He provided his first surf reporting and weekend forecasts in 1968 live on WKKO radio from the RonJon Surf Shop on Cocoa Beach Pier. He was the 1968 Florida Men’s Surfing Champion and is the current Florida Legend’s Surfing Champion. He has gathered over 300 amateur 1st place awards in both shortboard and longboard divisions. He is a 2014 Inductee into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame.
