BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Beach police arrested 58-year-old Leonard Nelson Lopez Monday night for the death of Merritt Island resident John Charles McLean.

According to the Cocoa Beach police, McLean, 53, was found with a gunshot wound to his head in Lopez’s blue 2005 Lincoln Town car in the parking lot of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, located at 150 Minutemen Causeway in Cocoa Beach.

According to Cocoa Beach police Sergeant Manny Hernandez, McLean was transported to an area hospital with life threating injuries, and was later pronounced deceased.

Lopez has been charged with manslaughter and is in the Brevard County Jail on no bond.
