(Sunshine State News) – College football has begun and fans across the Sunshine State are divided as they root for the Gators and the Seminoles.

On Wednesday, Public Policy Polling (PPP) released a survey asking Floridians who they cheer for in college football. The University of Florida (UF) and Florida State University (FSU) led the way with each team commanding the affection of 24 percent of those surveyed.

FSU is ranked in the AP top 5 to start the season. Both UF and FSU won their opening games this past weekend.

Coming in third in the poll were the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights who are the favorite team of 11 percent of those surveyed. Right behind them came the University of Miami Hurricanes with 10 percent.

Florida avenged a 24-21 loss the month before at FSU by blasting the Seminoles 52-20 in the 1997 Sugar Bowl to win the National Title, the schools first in football.

UCF won this past weekend but face a tough test coming up on Saturday against the University of Michigan. After a win this past weekend which moved them into the AP top 25, the Hurricanes play Florida Atlantic University (FAU) on Saturday.

Placing fifth in the poll was the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls with 7 percent. After a win this past weekend, USF hosts Northern Illinois on Saturday.

The FAU Owls command the affection of 4 percent of those surveyed. After beating Southern Illinois this past weekend, the Owls have a tough test as they head down to play Miami on Saturday.
