BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The University of Florida and the University of Central Florida Knights will compete in a men’s lacrosse game Saturday night under the lights at Viera High School.
The event is being held by the Space Coast Gator Club with game time set for 7:00 p.m. Both teams compete in the MCLA (Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association) and are in-state rivals in the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference.
Their division, the South East, includes Florida St, Miami and South Florida. Last year UF won a close 8-7 decision over UCF in Orlando so this year’s game should be evenly matched and a close as well.
To add further intrigue, five former Brevard high school players will showcase their college level talents. The UCF Knights have the most representatives with four former Brevard county players.
Former Eau Gallie Commodore standouts Aaron Larson and Trevor Ludwig, as well as Chris Cacciatore, a Melbourne Central Catholic graduate; and Andrew Meldrum, a Merritt Island High graduate will suit up for the black and gold while UF will feature Zach Tsarnas, a Cocoa Beach graduate.
New to lacrosse or never attended a game? No worries, The Space Coast Gator Club is holding a “Lacrosse 101” class for those attending their first game.
They will have handouts and even have live demonstrations, so you can enjoy your first game.
There is also a youth clinic that begins at 5:00 pm. On the field with players and coaches. This a great opportunity for both boys and girls to experience lacrosse at all skill levels.
Both beginners and advanced students can participate in the clinic. Bring the whole family and your gear. At halftime of the game the girls will be giving a demonstration on the field also. Every high school will be represented by both boys’ and girls’ lacrosse players.
Both the Space Coast Gator Club and UCF, Space Coast Chapter will have tents manned with information and events going on about their alumni associations, as well as Friends of Brevard Lacrosse and other local vendors and sponsors.
