BREVARD COUNTY • INDIAN HARBOR BEACH, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies responded near the intersection Bayview Drive and Royal Palm Ave. in Indian Harbor Beach at around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning regarding a man on the ground with an apparent head injury, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Police were notified when a concerned citizen called 911 after seeing the man on the ground.
Deputies located 51-year-old David Kervin, of Indian Harbor Beach, who appeared to be involved in an isolated incident involving a bicycle mishap, according to a release by police.
There is no evidence that any vehicles were involved and a small turtle was observed in the area where Kervin had been traveling.
According to authorities, the turtle had a small crack in the bottom of the shell, which suggest the victim possibly had contact with the turtle causing him to lose control of his bicycle.
The turtle’s injuries were not life threatening and it was returned to its natural habitat.
An autopsy was conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office and the injuries are consistent with the man accidentally falling from the bicycle.
