ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCF Knights) – The UCF football team is one-third of the way through its spring drills and the Knights’ head coach is pleased with the progress his squad has made so far.
“Practice has been really good,” UCF head coach Scott Frost said after a Wednesday morning workout.
“We’re a mile ahead of where we were last spring at this time. We’ve got some guys stepping up, a lot of good competition at several positions and I’m pleased with the effort.”
Wednesday’s workout was the second with full pads on and the first with full contact, tackling, etc. It was also a bit warmer than it has been through the first week-and-a-half of spring ball. The Knights are focusing a great deal on competing and being physically tougher.
Putting the pads on and dealing with a bit of warmth in the Central Florida sunshine likely helped push that process along.

“We always want to be more physical,” Frost said.
“I think it is a mindset. Guys have to make up their mind to come do it. Toughness can’t take a break. It’s got to be all the time. Our guys are starting to show signs of being really good competitors.”
The Knights are back on the practice field again Friday to wrap up week two. In addition to Friday’s practice session, the coaching staff is also hosting its annual coaching clinic this week. Friday and Saturday, nearly 400 high school coaches will descend on Orlando and the UCF campus.
