SCAM ALERT: Brevard County Clerk of the Circuit Court Warns Citizens About Jury Duty Scam

Clerk does not make contact via telephone
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Clerk’s Office has been informed that citizens have received phone calls from individuals purportedly seeking money as a result of the citizen having missed jury duty.
In the latest of these jury scams, callers indicate that a citizen must pay a fine or fee in order to ensure warrants for their arrest will not be issued.
Please be advised that the Clerk’s Office does not make contact via telephone regarding jury summons or a juror’s failure to appear.
Jury summons are sent to the address on file with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
While jurors who do not appear may be held in contempt of court, any such notice will be sent in writing to the juror.
Neither the Clerk nor his agents will ever demand payment via telephone in lieu of arrest. While the Clerk contracts with two agencies for the collection of debt—Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP and Municipal Services Bureau (MSB)—these entities will only contact a defendant in the event court fines and fees become delinquent and are eligible for collection.
Agents of Linebarger and MSB will always identify themselves as agents of the Clerk when making phone calls regarding delinquent court debt.
The Clerk reminds every citizen to remain vigilant to scams via e-mail and telephone, and would ask that any scam be reported to his office for investigation.
Individuals with questions regarding jury scams should contact the Clerk’s Jury Department at 321- 637-2018, 321-637-2018 or email@example.com
Individuals with questions regarding delinquent court fines and fees should contact the Clerk’s general information line at 321- 637-5413.
