Brevard Public Schools To Keep Spring Break During First Week of April After Taking Survey

44.4 percent preferred keeping April 2-6
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools will hold Spring Break 2018 on the April dates previously approved by the school board.
School board members had asked for a reevaluation of the timing based on some community feedback that teachers and students wanted a break earlier in the spring semester.
For more insight, BPS conducted an online poll of staff and the public that drew 2,213 respondents.
The survey found that a plurality of the respondents, 44.4 percent, preferred keeping spring break on April 2-6, as BPS earlier had announced as part of the 2017-2018 school calendar.
Although later than in most other Florida school districts, the April dates pose fewer conflicts with testing and allow for more instructional time before state-mandated assessments.
The online survey did reveal support for an earlier break in March. School Board members said at their May 23 regular meeting that they would consider that feedback in setting the calendar for the 2018-2019 school year.
