Operation Commendable Kids 2017

Officer Leonard ‘caught’ these lovely ladies doing the right thing. As they crossed a busy parking lot, they stayed close to mom and all held hands. Safety first girls! Way to go!

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – School is out, and summer is in full swing.

West Melbourne Police will be “putting on the heat” by aggressively ticketing the children of our community.

Each West Melbourne Police Officer will be required to issue at least one ticket every shift; every day.

This initiative is an effort to encourage our youth to make good choices and promote safety.

These aren’t your average tickets! In fact, they are a coupon for free goodies donated by local businesses.

This unique approach is a tactic that has significantly reduced juvenile problems in other communities. In addition, officers are aiming to boost the self-esteem of our children by recognizing them for doing the right thing.

“These positive law enforcement interactions strengthen the relationship our officers have with the youth of our community,” said West Melbourne police officials.

Examples of what police will be looking to issue tickets for include: wearing a bicycle helmet, properly crossing the street in a crosswalk, community service, good behavior, playing sports, exercising, group activities, etc.

Operation Commendable Kids 2017 has begun, kids beware.
