BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – In front of a crowd of nearly 300 guests, several Humane Heroes and Humanitarian award winners were honored at the 6th Annual Tuxes & Tails Gala held at the Space Coast Convention Center in Cocoa on August 26.

George and Becky Hinton, who run the Brevard County Pug & Boston Terrier Rescue, and Mona Motz, who runs the Purrs and Whiskers Shelter, have all worked tirelessly for years in partnership with Brevard Humane Society in rescuing and finding homes for animals.

They were awarded the Humane Hero Animal Friend award at the gala Saturday night.

Another recipient of the award was Ritch Workman, former Florida representative, for securing funding for new rooms that replaced cages for homeless dogs at the shelter.

In addition, the volunteer service of Bill and Debbie Brown merited the Humane Hero Animal Friend award, due to their dependability and dedication to fundraising for the Brevard Humane Society.

Other awards were handed out honoring the memory of Richard H. Stottler, Jr., a long-time supporter of Brevard Humane Society and a community leader.

Diane Marquez was given the Richard H. Stottler, Jr. Future Leader Humanitarian award for her volunteerism as a youth in the community.
