Former Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Brian Binggeli has abruptly resigned from the Plano Independent School District where he has served as superintendent since 2015.

Binggeli, who lead Brevard Public Schools for six years beginning in 2009, was at the helm when he championed a controversial $8 million software package that was never delivered, and culminated in a criminal investigation.

In August, Brevard Public Schools sued contractor Harris School Solutions after the company failed to deliver the software system to manage district finances, purchasing and payroll.

Earlier this month, BPS announced a settlement agreement between the parties. CLICK HERE to see the settlement agreement.

Binggeli’s tenure in Brevard was also plagued by budget cuts, school closures and the implementation of the controversial Florida Standards.

The Plano Independent School District issued the following information in a press release on Wednesday in regard to Binggeli’s resignation:

The Board of Trustees of the Plano Independent School District, and Dr. Brian Binggeli, Superintendent, recognize that they possess differing leadership philosophies and agreed it is in the best interest of the district to collaborate regarding an agreement that both allows the Board to transition the district’s leadership immediately rather than at the end of his contract in June of 2019, and allows him to begin pursuing other opportunities.

Dr. Binggeli will resign as Superintendent effective January 31, 2018. Dr. Binggeli has served Plano ISD for two and ½ years as superintendent and leaves at a time the district is moving in exciting new directions. The Board wishes Dr. Binggeli well in his future endeavors.

Ms. Sara Bonser was appointed as the interim superintendent for the district. She has been serving as the interim deputy superintendent since May 2017. As Dr. Binggeli begins utilizing his personal leave on November 29, 2017, Sara Bonser will assume the leadership position of the district during his absence.
