Eastern Florida State Hosting Second Annual Josh Artis Classic at Titans Field House

The Josh Artis Classic is tipped off its second season Thursday night and is named after Artis, who is a former player of Eastern Florida State College head coach Jeremy Shulman. Josh passed away of cancer in April 2016.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team will be back on the court tonight and Saturday for the Josh Artis Classic at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The tournament is tipping off its second season and is named after Artis who is a former player of Eastern Florida State College head coach Jeremy Shulman.

Artis passed away last year at the age of 29 from cancer.

This year’s tournament features two teams from the NJCAA Division I top 25 poll as well as NJCAA Division II Ancilla College who is undefeated and ranked No. 4 in the Division II poll.

The tournament kicked off on Thursday as No.11 Shelton State toppled Baltimore City Community College, 98-85.

The No. 5-ranked Titans tip off a tonight at 5 p.m. when they host Baltimore City with Shelton State playing Ancilla at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Ancilla will play Baltimore City at noon with the Titans playing Shelton State in a battle of top 11 teams at 2 p.m.

Artis had a an extremely positive effect where he lived in Clarksville, Tennessee. Josh was a 2004 Hopkinsville (KY) High School graduate and was a quick-rising referee for high school and college athletics around the region.

Josh was diagnosed with ALK (a form of lung cancer in non-smokers) in December of 2015 and passed away in early April of 2016.
