EFSC Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Monroe College in New Year Classic Opener

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team won its 15th straight game on the first day of the New Year Classic at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus on Tuesday afternoon.

Down 51-47 with just under 15 minutes left in the game, the fifth-ranked Titans went on a 25-8 run in the next six minutes to pull away and defeat Monroe College 91-80 to improve to 16-1 on the season.

Nathanael Jack had all four of his 3-pointers during that span of the second half, finishing with 15 points. The freshman has scored at least 11 points in the past six games.

Sophomore Ahmed Ali once again led the offensive attack, scoring 24 points.

The guard has scored at least 11 points in all 17 games this season for the Titans and over 20 points in six of the contests. Freshman Ruot Monyyong scored a career-high 15 points in the contest while teammate Shaq Carter finished with 13 points.

Former Titan Jhery Matos led Monroe College with 32 points. The Titans will play Harcum College at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Harcum posted a 102-83 win over Miami-Dade in the second game of the night as AJ Cox led the Bears with 25 points.

DJ Russell had 25 points for Miami-Dade who will get the day of basketball started at 3:0 p.m. against Monroe College.
