UPDATE: West Melbourne Mother Arrested After Suspicious Deaths of Her Two Infants

West Melbourne Police have arrested a 30-year-old Rachael Lynn Thomas after two infants were found dead on the 100 block of Laurel Oak Street.

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne Police have arrested a 30-year-old Rachael Lynn Thomas after two infants were found dead on the 100 block of Laurel Oak Street.

Thomas, the mother of the two infants, has been charged with two counts of Neglect of a Child and one count of Tampering with Evidence. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are pending.

“There are suspicious circumstances involved,” said West Melbourne Police Captain Richard Cordeau.

“Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are currently working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.”

According to Capt. Cordeau, the original call was received on Sunday, just after 12 noon.

“Our patrol officers responded, secured the scene, and contacted detectives,” said Capt. Cordeau.

No further information has been released about the identities of the victims.

Thomas is being held at the Brevard County Jail on $30,000 bond.
