Privately-Owned Recreational Trawler Boat Runs Aground at Jetty Park Near Port Canaveral

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – A privately-owned recreational boat became grounded in the surf zone off Jetty Park on Sunday morning.

According to Port Canaveral officials, although the vessel has several hundred gallons of diesel on board, no fuel discharge or sheen has been reported.

Notifications were made to the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Wildlife Commission, and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Florida and each agency responded according to their agency protocols.

The Coast Guard has opened the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to coordinate the removal of the fuel from the boat and plans are in development to float and tow the vessel.

A 50-foot safety zone has been established around the boat and will be enforced by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
