Bryan Lober, Curt Smith Win Brevard County Commission Races

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 2018 Primary Election was held on Tuesday as Brevard County citizens took to the polls to make their voices heard.

This year’s primary saw 125,475 voters cast their ballot out of 415,562 registered voters in Brevard. The result calculates to a 31-percent turnout.

For a comparison, the 2016 primary election saw over 99,000 cast their ballot out of 400,295 registered voters. That result calculated nearly 25-percent turnout.

The last primary election in a non-President election was in 2014 and had 82,035 voters cast ballots in Brevard County out of 374,145 registered voters. That result calculated nearly 22-percent turnout.

• Among the notable winners in the primary election was Bryan Lober, who defeated former two-term commissioner Chuck Nelson in the District 2 Republican primary for the Brevard County Commission. Lober, who garnered 55.6 percent of the vote, will now face Democrat Victoria Mitchner, who defeated Jack Smink, in the General Election on November 6.

• In the Brevard County District 4 County Commission race,  incumbent commissioner Curt Smith beat former two-term commissioner Trudie Infantini scoring 52.9 percent of the vote to Infantini’s 47.13 percent.

• In the State Representative District 51 Republican race, Tyler Sirois defeated Henry Parrish 61 percent to 38 percent.

• In the State Representative District 50 Republican race, Rene “Coach P” Plasencia defeated George Collins 65.34 percent to 34.66 percent.

• In the State Representative District 52 Republican race, Tyler Sirois earned 61.51 percent of the vote in defeating Cocoa Mayor Henry Parrish.

• In the Canaveral Port Authority District 5 Republican race, Robyn Hattaway garnered 63.03 percent of the vote in defeating Mac McLouth. Hattaway will now face Democrat Maurice J. Boudreau in the General Election in November.
