BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– The Merritt Island Christian Cougars achieved a couple firsts on Thursday night in their game against the Florida School for the Deaf.

The Cougars got their first win of the season and in turn, gave new head coach Greg Gage his first as MIC head coach and they scored their first points of the season, 37 of them to be exact while holding the Dragons scoreless.

The Cougars also avenged last year’s 27-6 loss to the Dragons.

Merritt Island Christian kicked off Week 4 of the Brevard County high school schedule that has 15 Space Coast teams playing in 11 games.

The three games on Space Coast Daily TV will be the Heritage Panthers hosting the Eau Gallie Commodores, the Viera Hawks traveling to play the Merritt Island Mustangs and the Rockledge Raiders hosting the Space Coast Vipers.

Led by head coach Mark Ainsley, the Heritage Panthers are 2-1 and are coming off an impressive win over their cross-town rivals, the Palm Bay Pirates. They host the upstart Eau Gallie Commodores, who is also 2-1 and defeated Sea Breeze, 47-7 last week.

The Viera Hawks have yet to record a win this season, but that could change tonight if the Merritt Island Mustangs can’t get their offense rolling. Despite a 2-1 record this season the Mustangs have scored just 23 points in three games.

With that said, the Hawks defense has allowed 93 points in three games this year and the offense has scored just seven second-half points.

The Friday Night Locker Room team will bring you the battle of two 3-0 teams as the Space Coast Vipers face the areas top team, the Rockledge Raiders.

The Raiders are led by head coach Wayne Younger and junior running back/linebacker, Ladarius Tennison.

Rockledge has defeated Viera, West Orange, who was ranked sixth in Orlando and 11-time state champ Jacksonville Bolles.

New head coach Matt Diesel’s team may not have faced that level of competition, but the combined record of their opponents is 4-5 and they have been impressive on both sides of the football.

Led by running back Devontae Shingles and quarterback Chris Squires on offense, the Vipers can score points quickly and force turnovers on defense.

The Raiders shouldn’t look past the Vipers in what should be a very good football game.

No.2 Cocoa Tigers (2-1) have a bye this week.
