BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police Department’s Officers will continue to receive Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) and specialized training on their use, thanks to the generosity and proactive efforts of Parrish Medical Center, Team Health Emergency Physicians and the Jess Parrish Medical Foundation.
This training initiative is the brainchild of Dr. Jorge Insignares, a Parrish Medical Center Emergency Room Physician and Air Force Reservists Flight Surgeon. This unified medical front supports the importance of early aggressive pre-hospital first aid in response to a life-threatening trauma.
The collaboration realizes that these kits and training for first responding officers will save lives. In fact, multiple lives have been saved since the program began in 2015.
“The Emergency Department Staff, Emergency Medical Services and the Titusville Police Department are part of first responders,” said Insignares.
“We are all in the business of saving lives; we all have common goals. We have helped each other help our community.”
This unique partnership provides IFAK’s, which include the tactical tourniquet and a myriad of life-saving tools and equipment, to all officers as well as the continuous hands-on training and replacement kits as needed.
“This partnership is much more than just Parrish Medical Center purchasing first aid kits, this is Parrish Medical Center teaching us how to use, and apply these kits, out in the field to make our community much safer,” said Titusville Police Chief John Lau.
