It’s famous for its sandy beaches, all year-round bikini-ready weather, vibrant nightlife, fun-filled theme parks and great food – and the list of top reasons to go and visit Florida can go on and on.

While most people visiting the state are expecting to find nothing more than the well-known highlights that scream of hot, tropical summer vacation, few associate the sunshine state with luxury accessories and jewelry.

But the fact is, in the recent years, Florida has been put on the map – the map of places to visit if you appreciate the finer things in life.

Miami’s Design District: The Hippest Hub for Luxury Consumers

Meet Miami’s Design District, aka the new place to be if you’re on the hunt for high-end products and gravitate towards the finest jewelry and watches.

With more than 100 international retailers that all offer high-end accessories, couture fashion, diamonds and pearls, Miami is definitely acquiring a different type of charm – a more sophisticated, refined, influential and exclusive one. And while you still might want to visit this sunny city for its hot sands and crazy party scene, the new high-end vibe of its Design District definitely adds to the overall appeal.

If you are tempted to take a walk on the streets of this new hot hub (even if just for window-shopping), be ready to encounter everything from diamond-enriched Swiss watches to the finest jewelry around.

With names like Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, Vhernier, Yvel IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Parmigiani Fleurier and Piaget populating the area, it’s no wonder that Miami has achieved its new status as a mecca of luxury brands.

Crystallized Sunlight in the Heart of the City

Miami’s Design District has benefitted from a major makeover in the past years – since 2010, to be exact. At the time, investors Dacra and L Real Estate had the idea to team up and give the neighborhood a new face: one that was to become a go-to hot spot of high-end products, specifically jewelry and watches.

What was once known as a neglected area in the city of Miami was to transform into a vibrant, creative and rejuvenated destination, loaded with luxury shopping possibilities.

The partnership of Dacra and L Real Estate, an LVMH-affiliated investment firm, combined with award-winning planners Duany Plater-Zyberk, focused on creating a neighborhood that stayed true to the spirit of Miami: fun, vibrant, tropical, Art Deco-enthused – and everything from the architecture of the area to its stores and fine dining possibilities reflects just that.

From some of the world’s finest diamonds to exquisite pearl jewelry and from Tiffany & Co. and Cartier to Bulgari, you are sure to enjoy an unmatchable luxury shopping experience.

The heart of the district is no other than the Palm Court area, where the work of Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, known for his futuristic and pristine aesthetic, represents one of the major highlights.

The powerful blue glass structures aim to capture the very essence of vibrant yet unpredictable Miami, with the artist saying that the actual goal of his project was to create “crystallized showers of sunlight” – perfectly in tune with the niche of the shops in the area that feature sparkles galore and a plethora of mesmerizing, light-catching bling.

Some of the stores found here are definitely extravagant, with their high-end merchandise displayed on no less than four stories and decorated in matching fabulous fashion.

What was once an overlooked neighborhood is now competing with the likes of New York City’s Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive and Paris’ Champs-Élysées: Miami’s Design District, with its ultra-posh stores, complete with its trademark Art Deco influences and utterly-tempting luxury items, from couture fashion boutiques to the world’s finest bling.
