BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Friday Night Locker Room’s Orville Susong and Steve Wilson are ready to “swing” into action as they broadcast their first softball game of the 2019 season.

The first broadcast of the 2019 season, which can be seen on Space Coast Daily TV, will be on Monday, February 25 as the Cocoa Tigers host the Cocoa Beach Minutemen in an intriguing matchup.

The Friday Night Locker Room has been covering local high school sports for 19 years and is very excited about this upcoming spring season.

“There are some excellent young players on the Space Coast along with a very talented group of veterans. It’s going to be a fun season,” said Wilson.

Both teams are very young as the Minutemen have three seniors on their roster, while the Tigers have only one.

The Minutemen are led by new head coach Joe Carter, who led the softball program at Merritt Island Christian School last season.

This may be Carter’s first year at the helm at Cocoa Beach, however, he is no rookie when it comes to coaching. He has been involved with softball practically his entire life. Carter has been a softball coach, umpire, volunteer, etc. for the last 10-11 years.

The Cocoa Tigers will be led this year by a familiar face. Dale Pierce, a graduate of Cocoa High School, is returning to the Tigers after a stint at Viera.

Pierce has been coaching softball for 20 years and has over 300 wins and three trips to the Final-Four on his resume. Pierce will be joined by long-time assistant Benny “Twig” Smith, Mike Lawson and Lenny Faulkner.

Pierce and Smith have been coaching together since day one. Pierce also had high praise for Mike Lawson. He has done a “great job with these kids,” said Pierce.

The Tigers are led in the circle by Myannah Robinson, MacKenzie Hoffman and Avery Lawson. The Tigers are coming off of a big win against Harmony last week.

The game can be seen LIVE on Space Coast Daily TV with the first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. Susong and Wilson will have the call.
