BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa police rookie patrol K9 Kyra was recently deployed to check a vehicle for possible drugs after the driver had been pulled over by Officer Zuniga in response to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the highway.
Officer Zuniga suspected drugs, so he called for K9 Officer Brian Delos-Santos to assist.
Officer Delos-Santos arrived with Kyra to conduct a narcotics sniff and it wasn’t long before Kyra indicated drugs in the vehicle.
A follow-up search yielded crack cocaine and three pills later confirmed to be Adderall/Amphetamine, a schedule II drug.
Cococa police officials said that Kyra’s work may have also saved the life of the person taken into custody.
Upon arrest, the suspect was taken to the hospital where it was determined he was experiencing an overdose.
After discovering the drugs, Kyra was so excited she jumped up and gave her handler a kiss. Not a bad day at the office for this rookie lady K9.
