BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Richie Leonard, a highly-touted rising senior offensive lineman at Cocoa High School, announced he will play college football at the University of Florida during a gathering at Jabbers restaurant in Cocoa on Friday.

Leonard had narrowed his choices to seven schools, with Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, UCF, Kentucky, Miami and Tennessee all in the running for his services.

According to MaxPreps.com, Leonard stands at 6-feet-5-inches tall and weighs 280 pounds. Two prominent recruiting service sites, Scout and Rivals, rate Leonard as a “3-star recruit” on 1-5 star scales.

Leonard has played a prominent role on the Tigers’ offensive line and has been a part of a program that has made three consecutive trips to the state championship game.

The date of the announcement coincides with his mother Prishonda’s birthday on the same day.

The gathering acted as a fundraiser for the Cocoa High School Quarterback Club.

“It’s almost that time…sweets will be provided…please be prepared to purchase food items,” said Prishonda Leonard on Twitter.

Ten percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Cocoa Tigers Quarterback Club, which provides support to the Cocoa High Football Program.
