Due to the impending weather conditions expected from Hurricane Dorian, Health First is planning to evacuate patients from Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital. The majority of the hospital’s patients will be transferred Saturday, August 31.

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Due to the impending weather conditions expected from Hurricane Dorian, Health First is planning to evacuate patients from Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital.

The majority of the hospital’s patients will be transferred Saturday, August 31.

“As we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian, ensuring the safety and health of our patients, providers and associates is of utmost importance to us,” said Pat Guerry, System Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

“Cape Canaveral Hospital is located on a barrier island, and we believe the evacuation is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone at this location. Once the storm has passed, we will assess the site for any damage. Once it is cleared for safety, we will begin accepting new patients.”

The storm’s projected path continued to shift south with the 11 a.m. advisory, with the point of impact now centered on Palm Beach County with the latest forecast predicting top speeds of 140 miles per hour.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, Dorian has strengthened to a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph.

Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane Friday and is on track to make landfall late Monday or early Tuesday, possibly as a Category 4.

Hurricane Dorian is expected to intensify into a Category 3 hurricane Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

According to the National Weather Service, Dorian could bring a triple-threat of dangers” to the state, including a “life-threatening storm surge, devastating hurricane-force winds and heavy rains.

BREVARD COUNTY WEATHER FORECAST

On Friday, showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm, with skies mostly cloudy, and a high near 89. East winds will be around 10 mph and the chance of precipitation is 60%.

New rainfall amounts will be between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
