BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – World-renowned contemporary artist Derek Gores knows culture. He’s traveled to galleries across the globe exhibiting his fine art collages.
His work was even selected for a special exhibit in Washington, D.C., that coincided with the Presidential Inauguration in 2009, and a year later he was named “one of the 40 important artists of the New Contemporary Movement” while exhibiting in London.
Despite having experienced cultures around the world, Gores has found there’s no better place to “place to live, think, and create” than on Florida’s Space Coast.
Just as his art collages combine seemingly unrelated elements to create extraordinary works of art, his love for life on Florida’s Space Coast reflects a similar sentiment.
“It’s not just tranquil paradise. You have the smarts of the space program. All that intellect is here. You have that mashed up with surf culture — that little rebel spirit mixed with the intellect. And I think it makes for a creative dynamic between two worlds — surf and space smarts.”
