BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – With a standout performance at the Panther Invitational, Florida Tech cross country runner Malte Stockhausen has been named the Sunshine State Conference Male Runner of the Week.

“Coach said do your thing and I did my thing,” Stockhausen said.

“It feels great to start the season with a win, especially in front of the home crowd. This makes me quite confident for the rest of the season and I think there is more to come.”

Stockhausen finished the 8K race with a time of 26:48.65 almost two seconds ahead of the competition.

“Malte is a very determined and talented runner who has worked extremely hard these past few years,” Pete Mazzone said.

“It is great to see him start off the season with a win”

Florida Tech finished fourth of eight teams in the 2019 Panther Invitational, which included three of the Top-10 men’s teams in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association south region preseason coaches poll.

Stockhausen is the first Panther to win Runner of the Week accolades since Justin McMaster was recognized on September 29, 2014.

Next up for Stockhausen and the Panthers is the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 14 in Gainesville, Florida.
