BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County should prepare for another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, July 5, while beachgoers are also urged to use caution due to a moderate risk of rip currents.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, there is a medium to high chance (50-70%) of showers and thunderstorms developing across east-central Florida Sunday afternoon.
High temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s, creating hot and humid conditions before storms move through the region.
Forecasters remind residents to practice lightning safety, emphasizing the message: “When thunder roars, go indoors.” Even storms that appear distant can produce dangerous lightning strikes.
At the beaches, a moderate risk of rip currents is in effect for all Atlantic Coast beaches, including those along the Space Coast.
Surf conditions are expected to range between 1 and 2 feet, but officials warn that rip currents can still form on seemingly calm and sunny days.
Beachgoers are encouraged to swim near a lifeguard whenever possible. If caught in a rip current, experts advise remaining calm, floating, and swimming parallel to the shoreline to escape the current rather than attempting to swim directly back to shore.
