Eastern Florida State Falls to Monroe College 2-1 in National Championship Game

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer team wrapped up a record-setting season with a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament Saturday in Tyler, Texas.

The Titans lost 2-1 to Monroe College in the national tournament final, marking the end of a program record 16-win season for Eastern Florida State College.

Down a goal and a player due to a red card, the Titans continued to battle and freshman Levonte Johnson slipped a shot past the goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1 with 16 minutes remaining.

But with five minutes remaining a penalty was called in the box awarding Monroe College a penalty kick. It would turn out being the difference in the match.

Sophomores Aedon Kyra and Moussa Gueye were named to the All-Tournament Team.

It was the Titans first appearance in the national tournament championship game and second straight season they have made the final four.
