Melbourne Police Arrest Fermin Cruz in Connection With Shooting Friday on Footbridge Drive

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Members of the Melbourne Police Criminal Investigations Division developed probable cause to arrest Fermin Cruz in connection with the shooting that occurred Friday on the 900 Block of Footbridge Drive.
According to Melbourne Police Lt. Shawn Eising, Friday evening, Cruz, 48, turned himself in at police headquarters at about 8:40 p.m.
According to Lt. Eising, Cruz was charged with Aggravated Battery w/firearm, Aggravated Assault w/firearm and Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Melbourne police officers responded to the shooting Friday just before 12 noon and discovered there had been an argument between neighbors that turned physical.”
“One adult male pulled a handgun and shot the adult victim,” said Lt. Eising.
The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to a local hospital and is reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
