BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Orlando Melbourne International Airport will increase its weekend flights to daily from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) beginning December 19 – just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
Flights will be operated on a two-class Bombardier CRJ-700, with nine business class seats and 56 main cabin seats. The flight from PHL departs at 8:20 a.m. daily, arriving in Melbourne at 10:58 a.m.
Flights depart MLB at 11:35 a.m. and arrive in PHL at 2:02 p.m., providing greater access and connectivity to American’s trans-Atlantic gateway.
“New daily service between Orlando Melbourne and Philadelphia provides our customers more freedom and choice in their travels,” said Jim Moses, Vice President of PHL Hub Operations.
“Whether escaping the cold on one of Florida’s renowned beaches or taking a dream trip to Europe, PHL connects customers across the globe to more than 120 destinations in the United States, the Caribbean and Europe.”
Philadelphia has been a top development market for MLB Airport Executive Director Greg Donovan, A.A.E.
MLB is the closest airport to Port Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center—and provides convenient access to Orlando-area attractions and the region’s pristine ocean beaches.
“As predicted, both routes are performing exceptionally well,” said Donovan.
“Expanding to daily service was a natural transition to feed the pent-up service demand along the eastern seaboard. It’s also an indicator that the local Space Coast market is supporting the routes we are bringing to serve them.”
According to Space Coast Office of Tourism Executive Director Peter Cranis, the region is poised for tremendous tourism growth, and increased nonstop daily service from a legacy carrier such as American Airlines, is critical to that growth.
“We have all of the ingredients necessary to attract and serve even more tourists at our great hotels, attractions and within our natural Florida environment. We look forward to growing our partnership with Orlando Melbourne International Airport even further.”
