About 200 participants in the beach cleanup

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Port Canaveral, Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Captain and staff of Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas participated in a beach cleanup at Port Canaveral’s Jetty Park on Sunday morning.
Capt. Johnny Faevelen, Captain of the Harmony of the Seas, arrived on his Harley and was joined by 30 crew members from the ship.
Harmony of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship homeported at Port Canaveral, and with a gross tonnage of 226,963, she is currently the second largest passenger ship in the world.
There were about 200 participants in the beach cleanup, who braved the chilly weather for a good cause. Volunteers from the community and visitors from Canada, Orlando and local also showed up to pick up trash.
The Harmony won a Royal Caribbean’s “environmental ship” competition late 2019 and were given $2,000 to donate to a local cause, so they picked Keep Brevard Beautiful to donate their award winnings.
Capt. Faevelen presented a check to Keep Brevard Beautiful, and all volunteers were treated to a boxed lunch after the cleanup.
