BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Melbourne woman has entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder after killing her father and stabbing him 69 times on February 27, 2015.

Amber Maltese, 42, was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by another 20 years of probation and mental health treatment.

The murder happened when Maltese was living with her 60-year-old father, Alfred Megathlin, at 2334 Golf Lake Circle in Melbourne, when an argument between the two ended in Maltese stabbing Megathlin to death and fleeing the home.

Authorities say Maltese was driving erratically on Eau Gallie Boulevard when she came to the attention of Melbourne police officers. She rammed their patrol car with her vehicle and pushed them off the road before leading several law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase down I-95 into Indian River County where she was finally stopped.

Melbourne police later found Megathlin dead in his home.

Maltese will remain in custody at the Brevard County Jail until she’s transferred to the Department of Corrections to begin serving her sentence.
