Disney World, Disney Cruise Line Prepare to Suspend Operations Due to Coronavirus Threat

Disney Cruise Line, which homeports two ships at Port Canaveral, will also suspend all new departures beginning March 14

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Walt Disney World in Orlando announced it will close beginning Monday, March 16 and stay closed through March 31 due to the Coronavirus threat.

“In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort, beginning at the close of business on Sunday, March 15, through the end of the month,” Disney said in a statement.

Additionally, the company said that Disney Cruise Line, which homeports two ships at Port Canaveral, will also suspend all new departures beginning March 14 through March 31.

Although the park will be closed, Disney officials said that the hotels at Walt Disney World and Disney Springs will stay open, including the retail and restaurant facilities.

Walt Disney Company officials said they will continue to pay their cast members during the shutdown.
