BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue Chief announced on Monday that a recent 10-acre fire that happened on Saturday in the Grant-Valkaria area was caused from a gender reveal party.
With Brevard County currently under a burn ban, Brevard County Fire Rescue Chief Mark Schollmeyer says people need to follow the rules set in place by state and county leader, especially during this coronavirus pandemic.
“We were informed that it was caused by a gender reveal using Tannerite and a weapon,” Schollmeyer said in a statement to WESH.
“Something as seemingly innocent as a gender reveal, can turn into a large-scale disaster where homes are threatened.”
Schollmeyer continued on by stating Floridians need to be aware of the crisis today with COVID-19 and the resources that are used on these type of calls, which drain the limited resources BCFR has at the moment.
“Especially during all these potential COVID responses and medical responses it can quickly overwhelm resources and by that I mean, it will leave no resources to respond to those medical calls when needed,” Schollmeyer said.
Gender reveal parties have become increasingly popular which feature a celebration during of parents, friends and family that find out the sex of a baby.
It has become popular with social media as expectant parents use innovative ways to reveal the baby’s sex before birth.
