BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa City Council made the very difficult decision to cancel the annual Independence Day Fireworks Display and concert with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Riverfront Park in Cocoa Village.

Due to the anticipated attendance of over 10,000 attendees to this annual event in a very confined space of Riverfront Park, it would be very challenging to implement and enforce any type of social distancing as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

Cocoa City Council felt that it was important to take the cautionary steps now in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community.

As with any large-scale event, there are logistical deadlines that need to be met in order to have a successful event including the ordering of fireworks, equipment needs, vendors, sponsors and more. Also, for the safety of attendees and staff, a decision on how to move forward with the event had to be made. All of these needs were taken in to account when making this very difficult decision.

“Public Safety is our main concern and while this was one of the toughest decisions as a council and we are disappointed that this beloved annual event can’t go on, we felt that this was the most responsible decision when it comes to protecting our community and our staff,” said Cocoa Mayor Jake Williams, Jr.

“We look forward to being able to bring not only our community, but others together once again when the timing is right and we have the all clear.”

The July 4th Concert and Fireworks display has been held at Riverfront Park for over 15 years.

The event consists of a free concert by the Brevard Symphony Orchestra on the main stage in Riverfront Park and a twenty-minute fireworks display over the Indian River.

This event is put on in conjunction with the City of Rockledge.
