National Hurricane Center Monitors System With 50-Percent Chance of Cyclone Formation in Five Days
By Space Coast Daily // May 12, 2020
Hurricane season officially begins June 1

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It may not be hurricane season yet, but some early activity in the Atlantic made the National Hurricane Center announce on Tuesday that they are watching an area of low pressure with a chance to develop this weekend a couple hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas.
At this time, experts project the system to stay off the Florida coast.
The system currently has a 50-percent chance of formation in the next five days as “environmental conditions appear conducive for this system to acquire some subtropical characteristics as it moves northeastward through Sunday,” according to the National Hurricane Center.
Should the system develop into the first named storm of 2020, it would be called ‘Arthur’.
Hurricane season officially begins on June 1.
The next scheduled update on this system will be tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
