BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department’s 2019 Officer of the Year is School Resource Officer Branda Marchica.

In August of 2019, Marchica took on the role of School Resource Officer at Endeavour Elementary School. She has made a true and meaningful connection with her students and values their lives and education.

Marchica noticed that quite a few children walked almost two miles to school and that a lot of parents were not able to drive their children.

Marchica on her own initiative contacted the local business’ that had bicycles and she was able to obtain them at no cost. Some of the bicycles were damaged and she was also able to find a business to donate time and effort to repair the bicycles on school campus.

She obtained more than 50 bicycles for the children to use to get to school and back home. This program has cut down on student tardiness and absences. This is just one of many examples that Marchica has improved the students’ well-being at Endeavor Elementary School.

The school’s principal, Mr. Reed has also stated that she has brought the ability to change the way that even some of the most difficult children view law enforcement and has strengthened the schools relationship with the police department.

It is for her natural ability to interact and reach out to these children in need, to go above and beyond what is required of her and to bring a community, a school, and a police agency together that Ofc. Marchica is awarded Officer of the Year for 2019.
