Dr. Gerda Maissel Named President and Chief Medical Officer of Health First Medical Group

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Dr. Gerda Maissel, M.D., President and Chief Medical Officer of Health First Medical Group, joined the Health First organization in February and brings extensive experience in medical group leadership.
Dr. Maissel received her Medical Doctorate from the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Sciences Center and began her career in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she quickly moved into leadership roles.
Since then, Dr. Maissel has served in progressive physician leadership roles, including Medical Director and, ultimately, Chief Medical Officer with Baystate Health Northern Region in Massachusetts. She then served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at St. Elizabeth Physicians in northern Kentucky.
Dr. Maissel is a team-based physician leader skilled at modernizing physician groups into strong multispecialty practices that thrive in today’s healthcare environment.
In her most recent role as Chief Medical Officer/Chief Transformation Officer and Senior Vice President at Health Quest Medical Practice, Dr. Maissel successfully led several initiatives, such as redesigning the provider compensation plan, improvement of patient and provider experience and recruitment services, and enhancing the organization’s migration to value-based care through the CPC+ program.
Now, as part of Health First Medical Group, Dr. Maissel is responsible for designing, developing and leading a wide variety of best practices across Health First Medical Group.
Dr. Maissel is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, American Medical Directors Association and American College of Physician Executives.
