Margaret Vernon, 94, of Indialantic, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2020, in Bellevue, WA. She was born in Durham, NC on November 19, 1925.

BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – Margaret Vernon, 94, of Indialantic, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2020, in Bellevue, WA. She was born in Durham, NC on November 19, 1925.

She met and married her husband, Arthur W. (Bill) Vernon in Newport News, VA shortly after World War II. After their wedding, she supported Bill by working for the telephone company while he completed his Electrical Engineering degree at North Carolina State University.

In 1960, Bill joined Radiation (later Harris Corporation) and they moved to Indialantic where they raised four children.

Margaret and Bill were very active in the community, with Bill serving as Mayor of Indialantic and Margaret as an active supporter of numerous school activities at Indialantic Elementary, Hoover Junior High, and Melbourne High School while her four children worked their way through Brevard County schools.

She was also an avid supporter of The Haven for Children and the Holmes Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Margaret and Bill were members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Indialantic for over 35 years. Bill passed away in 2007 and in 2014, Margaret moved to Bellevue, WA (Seattle metro area) to be closer to one of her daughters.

Margaret is survived by four children, Sandy (Jim) Breitmeier of Waynesville, NC; Donna (Al) Cheesebrough of Kirkland, WA; Kara Vernon of Orlando, FL; and Bill (Barbara) Vernon of Naperville, IL; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren all of whom cherish her memory.
