BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police have taken a suspect into custody after a 40-year man was shot and killed Wednesday night at about 11.25 p.m.

Melbourne police officers were called to 909 Almond Street regarding a gunshot victim.

When officers arrived, they discovered Kevin C. Austin, 40, deceased at the home.

“Our officers were called to 909 Almond Street at approximately 11:25 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim,” said Melbourne Police Commander Heath Sanders.

Commander Sander said the victim and Keyshawn Brown, 19, were seen arguing moments before a gunshot was heard.

“The victim was found deceased at the home, Brown left prior to our arrival,” said Commander Sanders.

According to Commander Sanders, during an extensive search, Brown was located and taken into custody.

“Austin and Brown are not related, but both live at the home occupying separate rooms,” said Commander Sanders.

“Our investigation is still open and ongoing regarding Austin’s death.”
